Interested in Sponsoring?

We have made sponsoring with us as easy as possible.

We do not require a contract or demand a time scale that we expect you to sponsor with us, as we realise that circumstances change and we cannot foresee the future, but we do ask that you start sponsoring with the ‘intention’ to build a long lasting relationship with your child, through letter writing, photos and videos, to see them through their schooling. We also ask that you let us know if you are no longer in a position to sponsor.

Why sponsor a child?

Sponsoring a child through Step Up Family Organisation is about so much more than helping them attend school. It’s about giving a child the stability, support and opportunities they need to build a brighter future. Sponsorship helps provide access to education for life, nutritious food, better health and medical treatment when needed, while also creating opportunities to develop skills, confidence and independence. Just as importantly, our children have the chance to be part of a supportive community, enjoying friendships, teamwork, fun and special moments such as birthday celebrations. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, feel valued and look towards their future with hope. By becoming a sponsor, you can play a meaningful part in making that possible.

Who needs sponsoring?

Quite simply, we have children of all ages who need sponsoring.

Our youngest are those who will be starting in nursery school and first primary classes so that we give them the very best start from a young age and we also have older children boarding in Senior School.

We currently have children in about 15 different primary and senior schools in Uganda and just across the border in Kenya.

At the moment we have kids who have lost their sponsors and are in desperate need of new sponsors so that they can continue with their education when the new term starts in September. They are:

Many people ask us whether its most important to sponsor girls. For obvious reasons we work hard to keep our girls in school to continue their education, rather than leave to become wives and mothers. For this reason we try to find sponsors for many of our older girls especially.

Likewise, many older boys are sent away from home and onto the streets because their families cannot continue to feed them. They want the boys to find work and bring money home for the rest of the family but many end up not returning home and become involved in crime to survive the often violent and dangerous life on the streets. Working with these boys takes time. We cannot just send them to school with a sponsorship as many have addictions to conquer and having to abide by family rules after living on the streets is a huge adjustment. We support these families while the boys adjust and until the are ready to return to education. Some cannot return home, but if they are ready to work on themselves, we help them return to education or to learn new skills to support themselves.

We find that many families with children like to sponsor children of a similar age to their own, so that they can ‘grow up together’ and enjoy writing to each other.

Some sponsors like to sponsor a family and so will sponsor a set of siblings.

Who you sponsor is entirely up to you. We have the right child for everyone

How much is sponsorship?

£20 a month by standing order. This covers the following throughout the year:

  • School Fees
  • Food
  • 3 terms worth of equipment
  • School bag
  • Uniform
  • Birthday party
  • Christmas outfit

You will receive photos and videos of your sponsored child, can write and send small parcels and have the chance to visit too on our Sponsors’ Safari Trip.

You will need to set up a standing order (on the day of the month that is most convenient to you) for £20 a month for each child you sponsor.

How do I arrange sponsorship?

Just head to the Contact page to get in touch. We will then get back to you with all the details. On our Facebook page, you will be able to find a list of those children currently looking for sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring a specific child, please just let us know. You can also email us at sufo1203953@gmail.com

When your sponsorship is arranged, you can join a special sponsors-only Facebook group if you wish. We post regular updates and you can ask questions and make valuable suggestions.

Can I send letters or parcels to my Sponsored Child?

Absolutely! We ask that you write to your sponsored child at ‘Busia Step Up Family Organisation, P O Box 25, Busia, Uganda. You are welcome to send photos or small parcels too, but bear in mind that post takes about 6-8 weeks to arrive and please don’t send valuables. You may have to pay duty on parcels. All post will be checked before given to the child to ensure it is appropriate. We also arrange regular shipments too.
